Where does the “Komm in die Gruppe!” meme come from?
The phrase "Komm in die Gruppe!" twists a typical invitation formula from group instant messaging, popularized in particular by WhatsApp, the messaging app that largely normalized the use of collective group chats. This social reflex, adding or inviting acquaintances into group chats to organize events, share jokes, or just stay in touch, became so widespread throughout the 2010s that it ended up being mocked in itself, with the pushy invitation turning into its own source of humor. The meme spread in 2018 within the German-speaking scene as a stock phrase summing up this universally recognized behavior.
