In MyMemeCards, the meme card game, “Friesenjung” is a rare card of the German Memes pack, number 192 of the collection, and the 39th best-known meme of its 300 cards. Here is what the meme means, where it comes from, and how to get its card.
What does the “Friesenjung” meme mean?
The word "Friesenjung" ("boy from Frisia", a region in northern Germany) is used, with a bit of regional self-mockery, to describe someone proud of their northern German roots, usually in a festive or party context. Online, quoting "Friesenjung" points straight to the 2023 track and its catchy chorus, often reused over party clips or dance videos.
Where does the “Friesenjung” meme come from?
"Friesenjung" exists in two forms: an original song by German comedian and musician Otto Waalkes, released in 1993, and a 2023 version by rappers Ski Aggu and Joost Klein, featuring Otto Waalkes himself on the new track. The 2023 version reuses the melody and chorus of the 1993 song wrapped in a modern rap production, which let the track reach a much wider audience than the original. The success of this collaboration between two generations of German artists turned the word "Friesenjung" into a recognized phrase, shared online both as a viral song and as a playful label for someone from Frisia.
