What does the “Meubles Ikea” meme mean?
The meme expresses a weary complicity with the brand: everyone knows what awaits anyone opening a flat box, yet nobody shops elsewhere. It comes out facing a wobbly shelf, a baffling manual or a move gone wrong. It works because it taps a shared experience, halfway between amusement and fatigue, without real malice toward the company.
Where does the “Meubles Ikea” meme come from?
The phrase is a sigh, “On se sait, IKEA… on se sait…”, that spread as a caption under photos of flat-pack furniture and as a comment on assembly videos. Ikea, the furniture group of Swedish origin, has long been an endless source of jokes about picture-only manuals, missing screws and weekends spent tightening bolts. No precise date or author stands out: the meme belongs to the common culture of anyone who has ever built a wardrobe.
