In MyMemeCards, the meme card game, “Michel Griezmann” is a rare card of the Memes FR pack, number 4525 of the collection, and the 753rd best-known meme of its 3493 cards. Here is what the meme means, where it comes from, and how to get its card.
What does the “Michel Griezmann” meme mean?
The name stands for an imaginary ideal footballer who would carry the flair of two eras of the French national team. People drop it when joking about a dream transfer, a stunning pass or a free kick, or just to tease a friend who mixes up generations. The tone stays friendly: nobody mocks either player, the humour comes from the sound of the name and the contrast between an old-school number ten and a modern forward.
Where does the “Michel Griezmann” meme come from?
The joke rests on two real people. Michel Platini was born in 1955 in Jœuf, in northeastern France, played as a midfielder until 1987, then became a national coach and football executive. Antoine Griezmann, born in 1991 in Mâcon, plays as a second striker or attacking midfielder and goes by the nicknames Grizi or Grizou. Someone attached the first man's first name to the second man's surname, the way a photo edit merges two faces. Blending two celebrities into a single absurd but instantly readable character is a classic online trick. The name then travelled as a shared image among football fans.
