In MyMemeCards, the meme card game, “Solange” is a rare card of the Memes FR pack, number 4524 of the collection, and the 753rd best-known meme of its 3502 cards. Here is what the meme means, where it comes from, and how to get its card.
What does the “Solange” meme mean?
The meme condenses a mute scene: an elevator altercation filmed without sound that lets everyone imagine the argument. It is used to comment on a conflict where nobody says why, to play the person losing patience, or to turn any lift ride into a joke. It also tags edits where the clip is captioned with imaginary dialogue, which is the real fun of the format.
Where does the “Solange” meme come from?
The meme refers to the altercation between Solange Knowles and Jay-Z in a hotel elevator, an episode English Wikipedia describes as Solange physically assaulting her brother-in-law, captured on a surveillance camera and aired on television. The incident was mentioned in songs, including Beyoncé's “Flawless”, which alludes to it. Users took the silent footage and added subtitles, dubs and comic captions. The exact broadcast date and the first parody are not detailed here; the card keeps the first name as shorthand for the whole scene.
