What does the “Qu'est-ce que tu fais ? Mais c'est un lapin” meme mean?
The line voices disbelief mixed with indignation at an incongruous act, here kissing a rabbit the way one would kiss a person. It is used to react to absurd behaviour, over-the-top affection towards a pet, or anyone crossing the line of reason. The casual “tu”, the slang “mon sang” (literally “my blood”, like “bro”) and the verb “galocher” (to French-kiss) give the scene a warm, offbeat tone. The dominant feeling is comic astonishment.
Where does the “Qu'est-ce que tu fais ? Mais c'est un lapin” meme come from?
The line comes from a short clip in which one person reacts live to a friend kissing a rabbit: “C’est un lapin. Tu es fou, mon sang, ou quoi ? Tu le galoches carrément. Tu l’embrasses.” The affectionate slang “mon sang” softens the scolding. The passage spread on social media, where the sentence became a reference for absurd humour. It was reused to caption animal videos, edits and comments about affection taken a bit too far.
