What does the “Satan nouveau chat” meme mean?
The meme pairs the prince of darkness with the cuddliest pet around. People use it to announce an unlikely piece of news, welcome a freshly adopted animal, or tease someone with a dark reputation who hides a soft side. The tone stays light and ironic, and the humor comes from absurdity rather than shock.
Where does the “Satan nouveau chat” meme come from?
The card comes from a French-language image format whose exact source is hard to date. The title sums up the scene: Satan introduces his new cat. The joke follows a classic meme recipe, taking a figure the encyclopedia presents as the ultimate adversary in religious tradition and dropping him into an everyday gesture, adopting a pet. The image then spread through successive shares on social networks, with each person adding a caption that suits the moment.
