Where does the “Sir Stuffington” meme come from?
The phenomenon began on September 13, 2013, when Sir Stuffington, a kitten suffering from multiple health issues, was taken in at Multnomah County Animal Services in Troutdale, Oregon. He arrived with two brothers, suffering from fleas, a heart murmur, feline calicivirus, a fractured jaw, and missing an eye. His foster family, Blazer Schaffer, created a Facebook page on September 17, 2013, to find a permanent home and raise awareness about stray animals. Photographs showing the kitten wearing an eyepatch and a pirate bandana spread widely, transforming his initial distress into an emblematic figure of resilience. Fame relied entirely on these images rather than any specific video or show.
