What does the “Ce petit côté kawaii” meme mean?
The title points to a song built entirely from Squeezie’s chopped-up, autotuned voice. It stands for early French YouTube nostalgia: the silly humour, the catchy edits and the joy of hearing a familiar creator turned into a hit. People quote it to tease someone who is a little too cute or cheerful, or simply to bring back teenage internet memories. Among viewers who grew up with Squeezie’s videos, dropping the phrase works as an instant wink of recognition.
Where does the “Ce petit côté kawaii” meme come from?
In 2016, YouTunes, who now goes by Joyca, took short extracts from Squeezie’s videos, applied autotune to his voice and stitched them into a track. The remix first appeared on YouTunes’ channel with a note promising a big surprise. Squeezie then reposted the song on his own channel under the title “Ce petit côté kawaii ! (Musique)”, thanking YouTunes in the description. That second upload put it in front of a far larger audience and the remix took off, settling in as a classic of the genre. Covers, nightcore versions and fan edits have circulated ever since.
