This format expresses the idea of a radical metamorphosis where a mundane subject becomes devastating in seconds. The underlying emotion is often euphoria, contained rage exploding outward, or overflowing excitement. By adding the characteristic manga effects, the edit transforms an ordinary reaction into an epic scene, highlighting the moment's intensity through absurd grandeur.
Where does the “Super Saiyan Remixes” meme come from?
The documented origin of this video meme dates back to August 12, 2008, on the platform YTMND. User Herald77 published a page titled *Michael Phelps is going Super Saiyan*. The content featured an animated GIF of Olympic swimmer Michael Phelps. The athlete's celebration was modified to resemble a Super Saiyan. His hair turned gold and exploded upward. A luminous aura surrounded his body. This visual creation drew directly from the *Dragon Ball* anime series. It replicated the graphic codes of Saiyan character transformations. Although the exact recording date of Phelps' original footage remains unknown, widespread dissemination via YTMND structured the format. Other users subsequently adapted this technique to various subjects, solidifying the trend in late 2008 internet culture.
