In MyMemeCards, the meme card game, “Supermoine” is a rare card of the Memes FR pack, number 1743 of the collection, and the 753rd best-known meme of its 3496 cards. Here is what the meme means, where it comes from, and how to get its card.
What does the “Supermoine” meme mean?
Supermoine is funny for its unlikely mix: a monk, symbol of calm and restraint, turned into an action superhero. The idea is a handy reference for absurd French animation humor, or for a character with contradictory strengths. People also quote it out of nostalgia among fans of animated shorts. The name itself, a pun on “super” and “moine”, raises a smile before a single frame has played, which is half the charm.
Where does the “Supermoine” meme come from?
Supermoine is a 3D animated short film made for the French studio Supamonks. The video on the studio’s channel credits Bakers as director, Ace-Out for the music and Blackbunny for the credits. The character returned in a follow-up, “Supermoine Holypop (le gardien du secret)”, which points to a website for a soda called Holypop. Stash Magazine, which showcases original films and music videos, published a making-of for that sequel. Supamonks is also known for other 3D animated shorts such as the “Jobs” series.
