“Choper par le colback” meme: meaning, origin and epic card

What does the “Choper par le colback” meme mean?

In French slang, the colback is the collar or scruff, and “choper par le colback” means grabbing someone by the neck of their clothes. The line protests that opening move with comic assurance. People quote it when an argument escalates, to deflate a tense moment, or to answer a friend who takes a scolding tone. The gap between the violence evoked and the ordinariness of the scene is what gives the meme its flavour.

Where does the “Choper par le colback” meme come from?

The line comes from a clip of the French programme SOS Ma famille a besoin d’aide, often described as a legendary episode. Several YouTube videos circulate the scene, with titles repeating “Tu commences pas à me choper par le colback”; some are reaction videos to the episode, others are meme compilations. The card sums up the spirit of the scene: when there is trouble, you start by grabbing the colback. The phrase has since come loose from the show and now captions images, GIFs and comments.
