What does the “Unagi : La Botte secrète” meme mean?
People use it to claim a secret method that is as absurd as it is confident. “Unagi” comes out when a friend brags about an improbable skill, when a plan is more swagger than science, or just to quote Kaamelott among fans. The charm lies in the straight face of the two knights, who talk like weapon masters although their art boils down to not getting hit.
Where does the “Unagi : La Botte secrète” meme come from?
The Unagi episode is number 93 of Kaamelott’s season 1, aired on the French channel M6, written and directed by Alexandre Astier. Its summary fits in a line: Perceval and Karadoc devise a very original weaponless fighting technique based on dodging, but its efficiency is questionable. Wikipedia notes a quirk: it is the only episode of the series to have four sequels, visible in videos titled “Unagi III” on YouTube. The technique and its name stayed in fans’ memory and they quote it in comment sections.
