In MyMemeCards, the meme card game, “Vous m'avez manqué !” is an epic card of the Memes FR pack, number 1124 of the collection, and the 238th best-known meme of its 977 cards. Here is what the meme means, where it comes from, and how to get its card.
What does the “Vous m'avez manqué !” meme mean?
The line greets someone with enthusiasm so heavy it rings false. People use it when returning from an absence nobody noticed, or to welcome a person they were doing perfectly well without. The comedy is not in the words, which are ordinary, but in the gap between the energy spent on them and the chill that answers: the awkwardness is the meme. It also works played straight and pushed too far, to poke fun at one’s own reunions.
Where does the “Vous m'avez manqué !” meme come from?
Valérie Pécresse, president of the Île-de-France region, was then the candidate of Les Républicains in the 2022 French presidential election. Her rally at the Zénith de Paris on 13 February 2022 was meant to be the turning point of her campaign: several thousand people, a venue picked for the pictures, a speech everyone was waiting for. She opened it with that “Vous m’avez manqué !” shouted at the crowd. The event was streamed live and clipped immediately. Within hours the whole performance became a target of online mockery, for the delivery and the pacing as much as for the lines themselves; television shows ran segments on it. Two moments broke away and still travel on their own: this one, and the call to stand up made later in the same speech.
