In MyMemeCards, the meme card game, “Aberrant frérot” is a common card of the Memes FR pack, number 1123 of the collection, and the 789th best-known meme of its 977 cards. Here is what the meme means, where it comes from, and how to get its card.
What does the “Aberrant frérot” meme mean?
The phrase hails an excess without choosing between admiration and dismay: an insane burst of acceleration, an absurd price for a spare part, a mechanical build that should not hold together. “Aberrant” carries the excess, “frérot” — bro — carries the complicity: together they approve and protest in a single breath. Outside car talk it works like “that’s outrageous”, with the video maker’s drawl thrown in. It is that delivery, more than the meaning, that the reuses try to copy.
Where does the “Aberrant frérot” meme come from?
GMK is a French video maker and streamer who films cars, test drives and track days. “Aberrant frérot” belongs to no single sequence: it returns from one video to the next, in the commentary he records behind the wheel, until it became the trademark his community hands back to him. It left his channel through two doors. First the GIFs, where several separate animations reuse the same scene from a lap of the track, the author in an open-face helmet and a race suit. Then the short reuploads, posted by unrelated accounts that exist only to isolate the line. The pack takes 2022 as its marker, the year of the oldest of those shares that can still be dated, with no original recording identifiable.
