What does the “Absolutely Barbaric” meme mean?
This format serves as a humorous tool for condemnation. Users employ it to stigmatize practices deemed archaic, rude, or simply aberrant by current standards. The soldier's face embodies cold anger and intellectual contempt towards modern 'barbarism'. It is used when one wants to convey that what was just said or done insults civilization itself.
Where does the “Absolutely Barbaric” meme come from?
The exact origin of the illustration remains obscure and unverified. A Reddit discussion from June 25, 2016, sought to identify the visual source without success. Participants noted a stylistic resemblance to Watch Tower magazine illustrations, but no formal proof was provided. The creation date of 2014 mentioned in some databases is contradicted by this lack of pre-2016 traces. The first documented description of its usage dates back to October 24, 2016, via an internet archive page. It specified that the text generally accompanied an antique figure with a reproachful look. The precise artistic context, author, and character name remain unknown to consulted sources. The meme spread as a simple social judgment tool rather than a historical reference.
