In MyMemeCards, the meme card game, “Angry German Kid” is a rare card of the Memes World series 70, number 20750 of the collection, and the 3rd best-known meme of its 10 cards. Here is what the meme means, where it comes from, and how to get its card.
What does the “Angry German Kid” meme mean?
The clip is the standing image of disproportionate rage at a screen: people quote it for a gamer’s reaction to losing, for software that refuses to cooperate, or to comment on their own exasperation with a machine. It is so recognisable that the sound of the hammered keyboard alone is enough. Learning that it was acted did not defuse it; it only added a layer of irony to its reuse.
Where does the “Angry German Kid” meme come from?
The author, a German teenager from the Bergisches Land region who posted under the alias Slikk, was making a series of satirical shorts called “Real Gangster”, in which he played an absurd tough-guy character. The episode released on 14 February 2006 as “Echter Gangster 5: PC spielen” shows him in front of Unreal Tournament 2004, losing his temper at the game in a deliberately overblown way. Taken out of its context and its language, the footage was received as a genuine document: it ranks among the most-watched internet videos of 2006 and still appears in the major viral charts of 2007. Its author, identified and harassed online for years, has returned to the misunderstanding several times.
