What does the “It's to pet the kitty” meme mean?
The expression plays on double meanings. Literally, it evokes a gentle interaction with a pet. In a social or humorous context, it works as an awkward or ironic justification for physical approach, suggesting that the touch has no other aim than the pure desire to cuddle. The humor arises from the gap between this naive explanation and the real situation, often more daring or simply absurd. The response "it tickles" confirms the physical sensation while maintaining this light and playful tone.
Where does the “It's to pet the kitty” meme come from?
Consulted sources do not allow identifying the precise origin of this meme. No original video, TV show, initial diffusion platform, nor exact date are mentioned in the available references. It is impossible to determine who first pronounced this reply or what initial context gave birth to it. Research is limited to linguistic analysis of the terms used. The word "kitty" familiarly denotes a cat but can also serve as an euphemistic metaphor. The verb "to tickle" refers to causing a slight sensation. This lack of factual traceability prevents any reliable historical reconstruction of the memetic phenomenon.
