What does the “Salsifis !!” meme mean?
Online, “Salsifis !!” functions as a humorous reaction intended to derail a discussion or acknowledge utter confusion. Borrowing from the King’s incomprehensible gibberish, users drop the exclamation to answer a perplexing situation with pure, chaotic absurdity or to bond over shared pop-culture references.
Where does the “Salsifis !!” meme come from?
The quote originates from the French historical comedy series *Kaamelott*. In episode 63 of season 4, titled “Le Jeu de la guerre”, the King of the Burgundians, portrayed by actor Guillaume Briat, attempts to negotiate with King Arthur without an interpreter. During his bizarre monologue, he emphatically uses the French word for salsify alongside other random culinary references. The phrase was revived on July 21, 2021, in the theatrical release *Kaamelott – Premier Volet*, where the character declares war to be an illusion and a salsify. While its film and television roots are clear, the exact online post or forum thread that launched its viral meme status remains untraced.
