What does the “Call of duty ? Énorme blague !” meme mean?
The line expresses amused contempt: whatever should impress is declared ridiculous. A question followed by an indignant exclamation turns any subject into a “huge joke”. People use it to mock an overrated game, a flashy announcement that disappoints, a product everyone raves about, or an opinion they find absurd. It also works as friendly irony, dropped on purpose when everyone around takes a topic far too seriously. The comedy sits in the delivery rather than the words, which is why the phrase travels mostly as audio and video clips.
Where does the “Call of duty ? Énorme blague !” meme come from?
The line comes from DiGiDiX, a French YouTuber known for humorous videos and parodies posted in the early 2010s. It belongs to a sequence built around the Call of Duty shooter series, where the character dismisses the franchise with a scornful “huge joke”. Clips were soon re-uploaded by other channels, sometimes as sound edits or as parodies of other shooters, which helped the phrase settle into French-speaking internet culture. The meme relies on voice, rhythm and the stress on the word “huge” more than on any single image, so it spreads mainly through video excerpts, audio snippets and comments.
