The humor lies in the visual absurdity: the cat’s compact body appears to have long legs due to the garment. This parodies fashion magazines and influencers. The meme is used to caption pictures of dressed-up cats, evoking fake but funny “outfits of the day,” highlighting the contrast between the animal and human clothing.
Where does the “Cats Wearing Tights” meme come from?
The phenomenon began on Tumblr on October 22, 2013, when Swedish blogger Katja Wulff created the account “Meowtfit of the Day.” She posted photos of Gucci, her sixteen-year-old Siamese cat, wearing tights or padded leggings.
