“Champion mon frère” meme: meaning, origin and rare card

What does the “Champion mon frère” meme mean?

The phrase captures the raw joy of a shared triumph: you shout “champion” and aim it at your “brother” in the locker room. It stands for pride, brotherhood and the pleasure of celebrating together. Outside football, people use it to congratulate someone on a success, big or tiny, in a warm and playful tone. Delivered with its inventor’s lilting accent, it gets chanted in stadiums, among friends and online, and even reached the French presidential palace.

Where does the “Champion mon frère” meme come from?

Brazilian forward Lucas Moura joined Paris Saint-Germain from São Paulo FC in January 2013. He won the 2012-13 French league title, and the phrase “Champion mon frère!” followed him through the club’s celebrations: locker-room videos shot after the win over Lyon already show it. Over the years it became a PSG party ritual. In 2025, Emmanuel Macron borrowed it after the club’s European triumph, which gave the line a fresh run in the media and on social networks.
