“Check DBZ Ottekoi” meme: meaning, origin and common card

What does the “Check DBZ Ottekoi” meme mean?

“Check” points to the coded friendly handshake, with slaps and finger snaps, that the characters perform in the videos. The meme blends two worlds: the epic fights and transformations of Dragon Ball Z, and the swagger of French rap, with its hooks, punchlines and greetings. The tone is playful and affectionate, as if Toriyama’s warriors were chatting like neighborhood buddies. People use it to signal a mix of anime fandom and humor, or to greet a friend while imitating the gesture.

Where does the “Check DBZ Ottekoi” meme come from?

Ottekoi is a French-language TikTok channel whose videos reinvent Dragon Ball Z scenes as rap, with characters trading “check” handshakes. These parodies are what made the channel popular: short, punchy clips that are easy to quote traveled beyond the app, including to YouTube, where a video titled “Check INTERGALACTIQUE” credits another artist for the animation. The format is made for sharing, with a hook, a gesture and characters everyone knows. Over time, “Check DBZ” became the label fans use for this kind of parody, including for videos that copy the formula. The original saga supplies an endless pool of characters ready to rap.
