What does the “Claquette sans chaussettes” meme mean?
The phrase flags an outfit that is a bit too casual, with the humour of two footballer friends teasing each other on camera. People use it to rib a friend who shows up in slides or flip-flops at a moment meant to be serious, or to comment on the ease of someone very relaxed. The comedy comes from Griezmann’s remark, which he cannot hold back, and from the natural feel of the scene, where two teammates talk as they would in the locker room.
Where does the “Claquette sans chaussettes” meme come from?
The scene comes from a filmed interview with French footballers in which Ousmane Dembélé arrives in slides without socks and Antoine Griezmann cannot keep the observation to himself. Clips from the interview, described on YouTube as hilarious footage of “Dembélé et Griezmann en roue libre”, come from M6’s archives. The pair trade jokes throughout, which made the scene a staple of football compilations. The phrase is reused as a caption on photos of casual outfits and in comments about players spotted in slides.
