In MyMemeCards, the meme card game, “Vive le catch” is a common card of the Memes FR pack, number 2141 of the collection, and the 753rd best-known meme of its 3495 cards. Here is what the meme means, where it comes from, and how to get its card.
What does the “Vive le catch” meme mean?
“Vive le catch” works as an enthusiastic cheer that makes no sense where it is dropped. The humor comes from the mismatch: a wrestling fan’s shout in a cozy family setting, even attached to a houseplant. It conveys sincere but misplaced joy, the urge to applaud an idea with no reason to exist. People use it to react to a strange gift, a bizarre decoration or a post nobody can explain, always with affectionate irony rather than cruelty.
Where does the “Vive le catch” meme come from?
The phrase was born in December 2021 from an M6 television report. A segment showed a potted plant decorated with the words “Vive le catch”, given as a Christmas present. HuffPost France made a video about it, explaining that the parents involved thought they were doing a nice thing but that Twitter had other plans. The clip was cut, shared and remixed across French social media within days and became an end-of-year reference. The spontaneous, naive tone of the scene and the punch of the line did the rest. Since then, the phrase travels on its own, detached from the original report, as a ready-made reaction.
