In MyMemeCards, the meme card game, “Crazy Frog” is an epic card of the Memes FR pack, number 3603 of the collection, and the 753rd best-known meme of its 3496 cards. Here is what the meme means, where it comes from, and how to get its card.
What does the “Crazy Frog” meme mean?
Crazy Frog embodies deliberate, over-the-top kitsch: a half-naked, grinning frog miming a motorbike while blasting a repetitive electronic riff. People bring up the character to mock a sound or gimmick that keeps coming back until it becomes grating, or to describe something unapologetically cheesy that still won over a massive audience. The reference mostly works through nostalgia for 2000s mobile phone ringtones.
Where does the “Crazy Frog” meme come from?
Crazy Frog was born in 2003 as a CGI animation imagined by Swedish artist Erik Wernquist. The character exploded in 2005 with an electronic cover of “Axel F”, originally composed by Harold Faltermeyer for the film “Beverly Hills Cop” (1984); this single, produced by Bass Bumpers and the Off-Cast Project with a video made by the Swedish companies Kaktus Film and Wernquist, topped the UK charts for four weeks. The video, uploaded to the CrazyFrogVEVO YouTube channel on June 16, 2009, passed one billion views in February 2018. The character later spawned three albums, “Crazy Hits” (2005), “More Crazy Hits” (2006) and “Everybody Dance Now” (2009), as well as the derivative “Crazy Frog Brothers” meme.
