In MyMemeCards, the meme card game, “IMAGINATION” is an epic card of the Memes FR pack, number 3602 of the collection, and the 753rd best-known meme of its 3496 cards. Here is what the meme means, where it comes from, and how to get its card.
What does the “IMAGINATION” meme mean?
The meme is used to mock an explanation that leans on magic or fantasy instead of real logic, similarly to saying “it's magic” with irony. It is also used more broadly to playfully illustrate any moment where something extraordinary or unexplained suddenly appears with no transition. The rainbow and the dreamy music behind it reinforce this deliberately over-the-top mismatch.
Where does the “IMAGINATION” meme come from?
The clip comes from an episode of the American animated series SpongeBob SquarePants, where the character Patrick Star, asked how something works, simply answers “Imagination” as a sparkling rainbow appears behind him over enchanting music. Taken out of context, this short clip was massively reused as a GIF and short video by internet users to accompany jokes about absurd or overly simple explanations. The contrast between the seriousness of the question asked and the childish answer, staged with an exaggerated visual effect, turned the scene into a comedic editing classic reused in countless videos and memes since.
