In MyMemeCards, the meme card game, “Pablo Escobar” is an epic card of the Memes FR pack, number 3608 of the collection, and the 753rd best-known meme of its 3495 cards. Here is what the meme means, where it comes from, and how to get its card.
What does the “Pablo Escobar” meme mean?
The meme reuses the face and name of Pablo Escobar, a Colombian historical figure, far from any criminal context. People post it to say they are waiting forever for an answer, a message or a late friend, or to show an absurd moment alone. The humor comes from the gap between a very dark figure of history and utterly ordinary daily situations. Users mostly drop it in comments, lightly, with no link to the real events.
Where does the “Pablo Escobar” meme come from?
Pablo Emilio Escobar Gaviria was born on 1 December 1949 in Rionegro and died on 2 December 1993 in Medellín; he was a Colombian cocaine trafficker. His image, picked up by series and videos, later became raw material for edits on social networks, where a version about waiting spread widely. Know Your Meme documents one of these edits as “Pablo Escobar Waiting.” The meme has circulated in France since then as an all-purpose reaction image.
