What does the “DAMSO « J’espère que vous allez bien »” meme mean?
The meme works through contrast: a warm, polite line, “I hope you’re doing well”, actually precedes an unpleasant remark, bad news, or a dig. People use it to poke fun at that double standard, common in messages or emails that open politely before moving into a complaint, lending that tone to Damso’s recognisable voice to sharpen the comic effect.
Where does the “DAMSO « J’espère que vous allez bien »” meme come from?
Damso, whose real name is Dieudonné Munganga Hubert Kabongo, is a rapper, singer, actor and director born on 10 May 1992 in Kinshasa, in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, later naturalised Belgian. His calm delivery and distinctive phrasing made him a reference quoted in many French and Belgian music memes. The line “I hope you’re doing well” tied to his name circulates online as a falsely soft opener, borrowing the same pattern as messages that start politely before delivering a disappointment, a comic twist built on the contrast between the displayed politeness and the far less pleasant remark that follows.
