What does the “Devil Spoo” meme mean?

Where does the “Devil Spoo” meme come from?
In April 2006, singer and co-host Shoko Haida took part in the drawing song segment “Spoo no ekaki uta” on the Japanese public children’s program Okaasan to Issho. Expected to draw the show’s beloved mascot Spoo, Haida instead produced an unrecognizable, demonic-looking figure. The footage quickly spread to YouTube and sparked massive discussions on the textboard 2channel (2ch), where users dubbed the creation “Gokuaku Spoo” (Extremely Evil Spoo). Even as broadcaster NHK filed copyright claims to pull down the video, users continuously re-uploaded the clip, cementing the terrifying mascot in internet folklore.
