What does the “Gérard en scooter dans un film X” meme mean?
It is all about incongruity. On one side, a scene with a very rigid genre setup; on the other, Gérard Depardieu, a hugely famous French actor, rolling up on a scooter just to say hello at the window. The image works because it is so improbable and because the character is perfectly polite about it. People use it for a surreal cameo, a guest who shows up unannounced, or anyone staying completely calm in the middle of something bizarre.
Where does the “Gérard en scooter dans un film X” meme come from?
The meme is built on an imagined scene: a scene set in a car, with Gérard Depardieu arriving at the window to greet the actress. It belongs to the family of absurd scenarios invented by French-speaking communities, where a recognisable personality is dropped into a setting that has nothing to do with them. The scooter adds a simple, silly visual detail that makes the picture easy to imagine and share.
