Where does the “IA Wankil” meme come from?
Wankil Studio is a French video-creator duo known for years for pranks and sketches filmed on the street or with hidden cameras, with a large following on video platforms. As AI tools capable of cloning a voice or generating an image from text became widespread, internet users started producing content placing the duo in situations they never actually experienced. These remixed creations circulate as fake sequels or parodies of their usual videos, relying on instant recognition of the duo’s style to boost the comic or absurd effect of the generated content. The term “IA Wankil” became a shorthand for this wave of AI-remixed content built around their image.
