What does the “Il as pas tort(C'est mon choix)” meme mean?
The phrase acknowledges that someone has a point in making a choice that might seem odd, implicitly referencing the spirit of “C'est mon choix,” where each guest publicly owned up to an unusual habit or passion. Saying it means defending one’s own decision with the same confidence as the show’s guests, while the deliberately broken grammar adds a light, casual tone. It is a way to claim a personal choice without further justifying it, pointing back to a TV format known for its outward lack of judgment.
Where does the “Il as pas tort(C'est mon choix)” meme come from?
“C'est mon choix” was a French TV show aired in the 2000s, where guests came to present and defend a personal life choice, sometimes extreme or unusual, in front of an audience and commentators. The show is remembered for its particular tone, mixing displayed kindness with implied judgment toward choices that were often mocked afterward. The expression reusing its title, paired with “he ain't wrong,” now serves to ironically validate a personal choice by borrowing that exact register of public justification, whether the choice is genuinely debatable or completely harmless. The deliberate grammar mistake reinforces the tongue-in-cheek tone of the phrase, meant to be funnier than correct.
