In MyMemeCards, the meme card game, “Je travaille comme une chinoise” is a common card of the Memes FR pack, number 2754 of the collection, and the 753rd best-known meme of its 3511 cards. Here is what the meme means, where it comes from, and how to get its card.
What does the “Je travaille comme une chinoise” meme mean?
The everyday French phrase “travailler comme une chinoise” means working extremely hard. It rests on a stereotype about Asian people, which many speakers now consider clumsy or inappropriate. In the meme, the phrase takes on another role: it is quoted for its spontaneity and for the contrast with the reputation of the personality who says it. People use it to mock an exaggerated complaint about workload, or to comment on someone boasting about their effort. Its use stays debated, since the expression itself is contested.
