In MyMemeCards, the meme card game, “La brioche” is a common card of the Memes FR pack, number 744 of the collection, and the 793rd best-known meme of its 869 cards. Here is what the meme means, where it comes from, and how to get its card.
What does the “La brioche” meme mean?
The comedy comes from the gap between the object and the emotion. An ordinary pastry gets the treatment of a revelation: tight framing, blurred image, a genuinely moved voice. The clip is used to comment on a tiny pleasure felt intensely, to mock disproportionate staging, or to salute total sincerity about something trivial. It belongs to the family of videos whose poor technical quality is part of the appeal: shot cleanly, they would stop being funny.
Where does the “La brioche” meme come from?
The sequence circulates on TikTok with no identified origin. The card rests on a 2023 repost by a French-references account, from which its artwork is taken in the first second, and its technical sheet notes the frame came from a second copy of the file, the first yielding nothing usable. The research for this article found no editorial source: only platform posts, one as early as 2022, show the same set-up — a brioche filmed up close and praised with fervour. The author of the original video could not be established.
- 2022TikTok posts already showing the same set-up, earlier than the retained repost.
- 2023TikTok repost used as the card’s source.
