In MyMemeCards, the meme card game, “Wojtek” is a rare card of the Memes FR pack, number 743 of the collection, and the 498th best-known meme of its 869 cards. Here is what the meme means, where it comes from, and how to get its card.
What does the “Wojtek” meme mean?
The sequence comes out when a passer-by turns out funnier than anything organised: a surprise guest in a meeting, a comment that eclipses the post above it, a stranger stopped in the street who answers better than the presenter. The mechanism is inversion: the crowd becomes one person's audience. The clip also works as an admiring label for someone whose every line hits.
Where does the “Wojtek” meme come from?
The clip shows a man recognisable by his red scarf and glasses, caught in the middle of a crowd, firing off retorts until everyone around him reacts. The sequence is reposted on its own, without its original context, and the first name Wojtek has stuck to it through the reposts. Accessible sources do not establish where or when the scene was filmed, the man's identity, or the nature of the event: the card lists 2018 and a YouTube publication, with no source confirming it. Wojtek is a common Polish first name, which on its own establishes neither the man's nationality nor the filming location.
