Where does the “Les Doubitchous” meme come from?
The film “Le père Noël est une ordure”, directed by Jean-Marie Poiré, was released in France on 25 August 1982. It adapts a 1979 stage play by the troupe Le Splendid. Preskovitch, played by Bruno Moynot, is a neighbour who keeps dropping by with unappealing pastries, the famous doubitchous “from Sofia”. Josiane Balasko, who plays Madame Musquin, is said to have created the cakes after specialities she found in Osijek, Croatia, where her father came from. Their made-up recipe is part of the joke: synthetic cocoa, margarine and sucrose.
