In MyMemeCards, the meme card game, “Les soirées de samedi soir” is a common card of the Memes FR pack, number 2090 of the collection, and the 753rd best-known meme of its 3503 cards. Here is what the meme means, where it comes from, and how to get its card.
What does the “Les soirées de samedi soir” meme mean?
The line states something obvious, in the tone of a deep truth: Saturday night and Tuesday morning have nothing in common. It is funny for its absurdity, the seriousness of the hook and the way it imitates the formulas of popular songs. People use it to comment on a memorable party or a hangover, to put a day into perspective against the night before, or just to amuse a group that knows the reference. The feeling is nostalgia for early-2010s web videos and for French rap parody.
Where does the “Les soirées de samedi soir” meme come from?
Jérôme Niel is a French actor, comedian and video creator, born on 14 June 1985 in Trappes. He got known through La Ferme Jérôme, a web series running from 2011 to 2014, before joining Le Grand Journal on Canal+ in May 2013. Sexion d’Assaut is a Paris hip-hop group formed in 2002, whose first album, L’École des points vitaux, came out on 29 March 2010 on Sony Music. The card says Jérôme Niel spoofs that group: a fan-uploaded video is also titled “les soirées de samedi soir” and presents itself as taken from La Ferme Jérôme. The hook line then passed into fans’ everyday language.
