In MyMemeCards, the meme card game, “Schwäbische Schorle” is a rare card of the German Memes pack, number 261 of the collection, and the 39th best-known meme of its 300 cards. Here is what the meme means, where it comes from, and how to get its card.
What does the “Schwäbische Schorle” meme mean?
The meme sells a plain mix of fizzy water and tap water as a hip discovery. The joke lives in the gap between the fancy tasting-note tone and what is actually in the glass. People bring it out to mock an overhyped trend, a silly bar price, or to describe a very budget-minded order with a smirk.
Where does the “Schwäbische Schorle” meme come from?
The joke started in 2019 on German-speaking social media. A Schorle is a German drink built by adding sparkling water to something else, such as wine or fruit juice with mineral water. The Swabian version keeps only the water, with a nod to Swabia, a region in south-western Germany whose people carry an image of counting every cent. A picture of a glass pitched like a trendy cocktail travelled as a gag before being taken up as a card.
