Where does the “Doctor Thomas Is Not Here” meme come from?
Vieni avanti cretino is an Italian comedy directed by Luciano Salce, released in 1982, with Lino Banfi as Pasquale Baudaffi. Banfi also co-wrote the story with Roberto Leoni and Franco Bucceri. In one of its most quoted stretches, his character works in a cybernetics factory under a jumpy director, “dottor Tomas”, played by Alfonso Tomas. The repetitive tasks eventually make him snap and the machinery breaks down. The scene was shot at the Laboratori nazionali di Frascati. Years later the clip keeps circulating as video and edits online.
