The film Il Marchese del Grillo, directed by Mario Monicelli and released in 1981 with Alberto Sordi in the title role, adapts a line inspired by an 1831 sonnet by Giuseppe Gioacchino Belli, Li soprani der Monno Vecchio, which already played on the contrast between power and powerlessness. This line became one of the most quoted in Italian cinema, to the point that another line from the same film, Sor Marchese, è l'ora, is inscribed on Alberto Sordi's own grave.
