Where does the “Serve—Politely!” meme come from?

In the film Fantozzi, released on 27 March 1975, a scene shows Fantozzi and his colleague Filini playing tennis at dawn in thick fog. Filini asks him Allora, ragioniere, che fa? Batti?, and Fantozzi thinks he is being addressed informally, asking Mi dà del tu?, before Filini clarifies he meant the formal batti lei. Rattled, Fantozzi hits himself violently with his racquet and collapses while trying to serve, in a scene that remains a classic of Italian comedy cinema.
