Where does the “One Florin!” meme come from?
The film Non ci resta che piangere, released in 1984 and co-written, co-directed, and starring Roberto Benigni and Massimo Troisi, features a border-crossing scene filmed at Castello di Rota in Tolfa, near Rome, where an official repeatedly demands the payment of Un fiorino. The two actors reportedly filmed the scene multiple times because they kept bursting into laughter, and the take where they are laughing is the one that was kept in the film's final cut.
