In MyMemeCards, the meme card game, “La Locura” is a rare card of the Italian Memes pack, number 75 of the collection, and the 76th best-known meme of its 300 cards. Here is what the meme means, where it comes from, and how to get its card.
What does the “La Locura” meme mean?
The phrase la locura is used ironically to describe the deliberate addition of absurd or crowd-pleasing elements to a work, purely to attract a wider audience without real artistic value.
Where does the “La Locura” meme come from?
In season three of the show Boris, centered on fictional director René Ferretti played by Francesco Pannofino, a monologue delivered by a screenwriter character played by Valerio Aprea urges René to add la locura, a Spanish loanword meaning madness or chaos, to win over the average Italian viewer. This scene fits into the show's broader satire of cynical, populist Italian television writing, where artistic quality often gives way to formulas seen as more commercially appealing.
