What does the “Vprochem, eto uzhe sovsem drugaya istoriya” meme mean?
People use the phrase to end a tangent or anecdote that is drifting off topic, borrowing the original narrator's solemn, slightly theatrical tone. It works as a convenient excuse not to go into a sensitive or overly long point: acknowledging there is more to say, then choosing to stop there.
Where does the “Vprochem, eto uzhe sovsem drugaya istoriya” meme come from?
The line comes from Leonid Kanevski's narration in the Russian crime documentary show “Следствие вели...” (“The Investigation Was Led...”), aired on NTV, where it regularly closes the account of a case by announcing that a side detail belongs to “a completely different story”. YouTube searches confirm the phrase remains strongly associated with the show and the narrator's distinctive voice, and it has been reused online as an ironic transition in contexts far removed from the original crime show. The card tags the meme as Runet format without a specific year, and no other origin was found.
