In MyMemeCards, the meme card game, “Kukozh” is a common card of the Russian Memes pack, number 171 of the collection, and the 132nd best-known meme of its 300 cards. Here is what the meme means, where it comes from, and how to get its card.
What does the “Kukozh” meme mean?
The meme captures that urge to curl up in embarrassment on someone else's behalf: a joke that falls flat, a clumsy line, a public performance going wrong. “Kukozh” names that near-physical, almost involuntary discomfort, the one that makes you want to disappear even though the situation isn't your fault at all.
Where does the “Kukozh” meme come from?
Kukozh comes from the Russian verb meaning “to shrivel up” or “to curl up”, picked up on the Runet in 2021 to name the feeling of secondhand embarrassment, playing a role close to the English word “cringe”. The card tags it as a Runet-format meme for 2021, with no specific video or post confirmed as the exact trigger beyond that framing. The word then became a standard comment under videos or scenes considered embarrassing for the person living them, more than for the viewer.
