Where does the “Mille quenouilles” meme come from?
Les Visiteurs came out in France on 27 January 1993. Jean-Marie Poiré directed it and co-wrote it with Christian Clavier. Jean Reno plays the knight Godefroy de Montmirail and Clavier his squire Jacquouille la Fripouille. Sent to the twentieth century by a failed potion, the pair stumble through modern life. In the dentist scene, with Christian Bujeau as Jean-Pierre Goulard (a stomatologist often called a dentist), Jacquouille bites the practitioner and blurts out the famous “Je ne suis pas une mule, mille quenouilles!”. Clips of the moment later spread on YouTube, and the line became a staple of montages.
