In MyMemeCards, the meme card game, “Oklm mon gars” is a rare card of the Memes FR pack, number 2516 of the collection, and the 753rd best-known meme of its 3496 cards. Here is what the meme means, where it comes from, and how to get its card.
What does the “Oklm mon gars” meme mean?
“Oklm” is a casual abbreviation of “au calme,” describing a relaxed state with no worries. In the meme, the phrase clashes with the fall it stayed attached to: the person calling himself calm collapses right after. People therefore use it ironically when something has just gone wrong, or to tease a friend who swore everything would be fine. “Mon gars” (“my guy”) adds the friendly tone of gaming videos among buddies. The joke rests on misplaced confidence, a universal pattern that explains the meme’s long life.
Where does the “Oklm mon gars” meme come from?
Michou is a French YouTuber known for gaming videos, notably Fortnite, where he shows his matches to subscribers. One of his videos even carries the word “oklm” in its title, which shows it is part of his everyday vocabulary. The meme points to a fall that became iconic in Michou’s early career: the clip, in which the phrase is heard, was reused and shared by fans, who pulled it out of the original video. Internet users have since employed it as a comment on any setback, whatever the game or situation. The meme shows how one detail from a gaming video, once clipped, can live its own life on social media.
