Where does the “Philippe Katerine aux JO” meme come from?
The sequence took place on 26 July 2024, during the opening ceremony of the Paris Olympic Games, staged by Thomas Jolly. French singer Philippe Katerine performed a song dressed as Dionysus, the Greek god of wine and festivity. The extract Eurosport published that same evening, titled “Philippe Katerine, tout bleu, rend hommage à Dionysos”, is one of the versions through which the scene circulated. The tableau drew public debate in the following days, and it is the image of the blue singer, detached from the controversy, that survived as a meme.
