In MyMemeCards, the meme card game, “Phteven” is a common card of the Memes FR pack, number 2617 of the collection, and the 753rd best-known meme of its 3496 cards. Here is what the meme means, where it comes from, and how to get its card.
What does the “Phteven” meme mean?
The meme swaps “s” and “c” sounds for a heavy “ph”, so “C’est super rigolo, n’est-ce pas ?” turns into “Pha phest phuper rigolo n’eph pas ?”. The effect is immediate: you imitate an exaggerated lisp that is both cute and silly. Use it to underline irony, answer in a mock-cheerful tone or just amuse friends with a funny voice. Paired with the dog’s photo, it gives the animal a voice that matches its unusual snout.
Where does the “Phteven” meme come from?
Tuna is a chihuahua-dachshund mix with a pronounced overbite, adopted by Courtney Dasher, who runs his Instagram page. The name “Phteven” comes from a different image: a photo of a receipt on which the name Steven was printed as “Phteven”, which sounds like Steven with a lisp. On 4 September 2013 a user posted the receipt on Reddit’s /r/funny. On 25 September 2013 another paired the receipt with a photo of Tuna under the caption “Phteven? Is that you Phteven?”.
